Red Lobster is an American casual dining restaurant chain that is owned and operated by Darden Restaurants, Inc., headquartered in Orlando, Florida. The company also has operations in Canada, the United Arab Emirates, and Japan. As of May 29, 2011, there are 698 Red Lobster locations worldwide.
Red Lobster was founded in 1968 by entrepreneurs Bill Darden and Charley Woodsby. Originally billed as a "Harbor for Seafood Lovers", the first restaurant in Lakeland, Florida, was followed by several others throughout the southeast. In 1970, General Mills acquired Red Lobster as a five-unit company. With new backing, the chain expanded rapidly in the 1980s.
Pan Seared Crab Cakes
Red Lobster Pan Seared Crab Cakes
1 lb lump crab meat
1/2 teaspoon onion
1 tablespoon minced garlic
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
1 whole egg
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
1/4 cup bread crumbs
2 tablespoons oil
In a large bowl, combine all the ingredients except crab meat and read crumbs. Mix in the crab meat and then add the bread crumbs. Spread a thin layer of plain bread crumbs onto the work surface.
Form crab mixture into balls about 2 inches in diameter. Place on the crumbs. Flatten the balls and round the edged to form the cakes. Refrigerate.
Melt 2 tablespoons of oil in a skillet. Cook the crab cakes 2 at a time. Brown on one side about 2-3 minutes.Turn and brown the other side. Turn down heat to simmer and cook crab cakes for another 5-8 minutes.
